Learn More About the IB
IB Students Learn How to Learn
The primary aim of the IB programme is to nurture knowledgeable, caring, inquiring learners who excel academically and personally, think critically and ask difficult questions. Students are motivated to succeed beyond school and grow into active members of their community.
The International Baccalaureate Learner Profile
According to the IB Learner Profile, IB programmes are learner-centric and aim to nurture students who are: inquirers, knowledgeable, thinkers, communicators, principled, open-minded, caring, risk-takers, balanced and reflective. As a reflection of holistic development, these qualities highlight the considerable emphasis the IB places on nurturing cognitive development as well as curiosity and compassion.
The Extensive and Interconnected IB Curriculum
Elements in the IB programmes are broad, balanced, conceptual and connected. Students access an extensive subject offering that includes valuable academic and other learning opportunities. Conceptual and cross-curricular learning are prioritised in all disciplines; learners make relevant links between subjects and explore new ways to make sense of the world.
The Five Categories of IB Competencies
All courses in the IB programme focus on five categories of related competencies, which are supported and cultivated through tailored lessons for each age level: thinking, research, communication, social skills and self-management. Together these skills develop agency and nurture students into active learners, capable of asking good questions, setting goals and pursuing their ambitions.
The IB Diploma: A Path to Unlimited Opportunities
Learners who take the IB Diploma develop key skills and competencies owing to unparalleled learning provision and preparation. Not only are graduates more likely to attend university than non-IB students, but the IBDP’s broad programme gives learners a strong academic foundation, ensuring they can thrive in any role or industry.
